Excursion à Edimbourg / Trip to Edinburgh

Avec Chéri, nous avions décidé de passer la journée à Édimbourg. Lui, il avait déjà visité la ville lorsqu'il était venu pour son entretien. Il avait bien compris que je serais plus ou moins impatiente de m'y rendre, surtout d'après ce que j'avais vu de notre viré en bus de l'aéroport à la gare.
Nous avions réservé les billets de train l'avant veille. Grosse erreur. Disons qu'il est préférable de les acheter à l'avance. Le plus tôt, mieux c'est.
Lorsqu'il allait payer les billets sur le site, le serveur nous a fait savoir qu'il n'y avait plus de place à réserver. Au moins que ça voulait dire qu'il n'y avait pas de numéro de siège ?
Je savais qu'il y avait des festivals dans la ville. Je ne me souviens pas si c'était sur internet, ou lu dans mon guide. Mais à ce moment là, cela ne m'est pas venu à l'esprit.

With Chéri, we decided to spend the day in Edinburgh. He had already visited the city when he came for his job interview. He understood that I would be more or less eager to go there, especially after what I had seen when we were in the bus from the airport to the train station. 
We booked the train tickets two days before. Big mistake.  I would say it is better to buy its in advance. The sooner, the better. 
When he would pay for the tickets on the website, the server told us that there was no free places to book. At least that meant there was no seat number? 
I knew then that there were  some festivals going on in the city. I do not remember if it was on the internet, or read in my guide. But at that moment, it does not come to mind.

Edinburgh.

 Samedi matin. Nous partons à la gare. Et là, une foule ! Le festival Fringe dure tout le mois d'août dans la capitale, et là, c’était les derniers jours du mois... C'était à se demander si les gens se sont donnés le mot.

Saturday morning. We went at the station. And there, a crowd! The Fringe festival lasts the entire month of August in the capital, and there, it was the last days of the month ... It was to wonder if people have given to each others the word.

Ah si, maintenant je m'en souviens ! J'avais lu sur les écrans à la gare lorsque nous sommes arrivés dans le pays, qu'il y avait des trains supplémentaires à cause des évènements qu'il y avait dans la ville !

Oh yes, now I remember! I had read on the screens at the station when we arrived in the country, there were additional trains because of the events there was in the city!

Le train arrive. Pas une place de libre. Tous les sièges ont été réservé ! A notre grande surprise, même s'il n'y pas plus de places pour s'assoir, ils vendent quand même les billets. En Finlande, j'habitais à 60km d'Helsinki (42 min de train), et il arrivait que je devais rester debout une partie du voyage avant d'avoir une place libérée. Mais là !! Nous étions je ne sais combien à être debout. Et le trajet allait durer 1h20. Deux arrêts avant la destination finale.
Prendre son mal en patience. Une dame expliqua à une autre qu'à son avis les gens debout étaient ceux qui n'avaient pas de places réservées. Exact.
Avec Chéri donc, nous nous tenions debout, dans le couloir. Quoi de mieux à faire qu'observer les chanceux qui sont assis.

The train arrived. Not a free seat. All seats were reserved! To our surprise, even if there are no more places to sit, they sell the tickets anyway. In Finland I lived about 60km away from Helsinki (42 min by train), and it happened that I had to stand up part of the trip before having a seat. But there!! I don't know how many of us we were not sitting. A lot that's what I noticed. And the journey lasted 1h20. Two stops before the final destination. 
Being patient, that's all we could do, right? A lady explained to another that in her opinion the people standing were those who did not have reserved seats. Right. 
With Chéri  we stood in the corridor. What better things to do than to observe the lucky ones who sit.

Nous étions prêt d'un couple où se dégageait une tendresse, de l'amour que j'ai voulu immortaliser.
Ok, c'est vrai aussi que sa couleur de cheveux à la jeune femme y était part aussi pour quelque chose. Bleue. Et en plus elle avait des anglaises. Je ne pense pas qu'aussi non je l'aurai remarqué. Je me voyais mal sortir mon super joujou pour prendre cette photo. Et je me voyais encore moins lui dire : bonjour, je suis désolée de vous embêter mais j'ai pour passion la photographie (à mes heures perdues, lorsque l'inspiration est là) et j'aimerai vous prendre en photo avec votre copain. Non, non, non ! J'ai pris mon téléphone, mis sur silencieux, et j'ai fait de mon mieux pour immortaliser tout ça. La photo couleur ne rendait pas justice à ses cheveux. Et je trouve que dans cette couleur sépia, elle fait plus d'effet. Je ne sais pas ce que vous en pensez.

We were nearby a couple showing off tenderness, love that I wanted to immortalize. 
Ok, it is also true that her hair color was part of me wanted to take a picture. Bleue. And she had those curly hairs. I do not think that I would have noticed her otherwise. I could not see myself get my toy to take this picture. And even less, saying this: hello, I'm sorry to bother you but I have passion for photography (in my spare time, when the inspiration is there) and I would like to take your picture with your boyfriend.  
No no no ! I took my phone, put it on silent, and I did my best to capture it all. The color picture did not do justice to her hair. And I think in this sepia color, it makes more effect. What do you think?

Puis nous entendons un bouchon qui saute. C'était derrière moi, un groupe d'amies qui avaient ouvert une bouteille de champagne. Comment ne pas sourire à ce genre de chose ? 

Then we hear a popping. It was behind me, a group of friends who had opened a bottle of champagne. How not to smile at this kind of thing?

Nous avons pu avoir des places assises lors de nos dix dernières minutes de voyage. A rester debout comme ça, ça nous avait fatigué par avance. 

We have had seats in our last ten minutes of travel. To stand like that, it had tired us in advance.

Bien entendu avec les différents festivals il y avait foule ! Il y avait dont le festival Fringe, dont les artistes tous confondus (comédiens, magiciens, danseurs) cherchaient à accaparer l'intention du public pour donner des prospectus, une idée de ce qui attendra le public avec leur spectacle, etc.
Tout ça se déroula dans le rue principal qui mène vers le château de la ville. Il y avait une foule compacte. Ce n'était pas si facile que de marcher, du moins pour moi, tellement mon regard ne savait où se posait, et idée photos à faire. 
Bien sûr il a des photos ! Comme j'ai encore un peu de mal à les positionner à droite ou à gauche, c'est pour cette raison que les 3/4 du temps elles sont centrales. Et surement que vous pourrez les voir à la fin de cette histoire.
Je sais qu'il y avait le salon du livre international. Je ne sais pas où c'était et c'est mieux ainsi avec moi...

Of course with the various festivals, there was a crowd! There was among those Fringe, which of all artists (comedians, magicians, dancers) trying to get people intention to give leaflets, an idea of what will await the audience with their show, etc. 
All that took place in the main street leading to the castle of the city. There was a dense crowd. It was not that easy to walk, at least for me: my eyes did not know where to look, so many ideas to make pictures. 
Of course there are pictures! As I still have some difficulty in positioning the right or left, it is for this reason that 3/4 of the time they are central. And surely you can view at the end of this story. 
I know there was the festival of international book. I do not know where it was and it's better that way with me ...

Édimbourg a deux villes : la vieille ville et la nouvelle. Nous étions surtout dans la vieille que j'ai beaucoup aimé. Ceci dit étant plus une fille de la campagne, j'avais l'impression que c'était un peu comme Paris : ça pouvait être stressant. Chéri m'a fait savoir que non, que lui même lorsqu'il est venu seul, c'était une ville calme. Je verrai bien par moi-même lors de mes prochaines fois dans la capitale.
Notre petit programme était de visiter, bien entendu, le château d'Édimbourg. Mais pour lui, et vis à vis des photos que j'ai prise je préfère y revenir une prochaine fois avec un post rien que sur lui.

Edinburgh has two cities: the old town and the new. We were mainly in the old one that I loved. Coming from a country girl, I felt it was a bit like Paris: it could be stressful. Cheri informed me that no, even when he came alone, it was a quiet town. I will see for myself during my next time in the capital.
Our small program was visiting, of course, Edinburgh Castle. But for it, as there is so many pictures I decided to write an other short story about it wirh lot of pictures then.

Victoria street.

Nous avons ensuite pris des rues au hasard, partant à la découverte. La "Victoria street" est une petite rue remplie de petits magasins très sympa. Et d'une petite boulangerie - pâtisserie française "La Barantine" où vous pouvez vous posez le temps de déguster l'une de leur pâtisserie avec une boisson chaude. Le personnel est français, et bien que ça soit petit, voir un peu étroit, c'est un endroit qui m'a été fort sympathique où j'aimerais revenir pour y acheter ne serait-ce que du bon pain français ou autres gourmandises !   
En gros comme je l'ai dans des commentaires dont je suis d'accord, un coin de France dans Édimbourg. 

Then we took  the streets at random, better way to discover. The "Victoria Street" is a small street filled with small shops very nice. And a small bakery - French pastry "The Barantine" where you can allow yourself the time to enjoy one of their pastries with a hot drink. The staff is French, although it is small, a bit narrow,  but it is a place very nice to me and I recommend.  I want to come back there since to me it was a very nice place to be, and of course to buy some French bread or other treats!

Nous avons continué notre promenade vers Calton Hill. Un grand parc avec un observatoire, Monument national et le monument Nelson. De là, nous avions de belles vues sur la ville comme vous aller voir sur les photos.

Cela ne parait pas mais nous étions alors en début de soirée, et bien fatigués d'avoir autant marché. Nous sommes partis à la recherche d'un restaurant sans succès : ils étaient tous pleins. Sûrement du aux évènements de la ville. 
Je ne dirais pas où nous sommes allés manger pour la peine !

Nelson monument

 We continued our walk to Calton Hill. A large park with an observatory, National Monument and Nelson Monument. From there we had beautiful views of the city as you are going to see on the pictures. 
This does not look like but we were then in the early evening, and although tired from much walk, we went in search of a restaurant without success: they were all full. Surely coz the events of the city. 
So I would not say we went to eat it!

  Pour le train du retour, j'avais dit à Chéri que je voulais que nous y soyons une bonne vingtaine de minutes à l'avance pour être sûr d'avoir des places assises. Même pas deux places assises l'un à côté de l'autre (je commence à être habituée) mais nous étions prêt. 
J'étais assise à un groupe de quatre place : deux places faisant face à deux avec un table au milieu. Le couple en face de moi avait une cinquantaine d'années. Ils avaient ouvert un sac de bonbons et m'en avait proposé. Et pas la langue dans leur poche : ils étaient très agréable, et m'ont bien fait rire avec leurs histoires. Spécialement elle lorsqu'elle a demandé à son mari s'il se souvenait des chimpanzés dans la supérette lorsqu'ils étaient enfants. Lui même l'avait regardé interloqué en se demandant si sa femme se moquait de lui ! 
Pour Chéri c'était un couple qui se la jouait un peu. Peut-être bien, mais en attendant j'ai passé un bon voyage de retour en leur compagnie.
Et en tout cas ce fut une belle journée bien qu'elle ait été fatigante.

For the train back home, I told Chéri that I wanted us to be there at least twenty minutes in advance to be sure to have seats. Not even two seats next to each other (I'm getting accustomed to it) but we were near each other.I sat up to a group of four: two seats facing two with a table in the middle. The couple in front of me were in their fifty years. They had opened a bag of candy and had offered me some. And they didn't have their tongue in their pocket, they were very nice and made me laugh with their stories. Especially when she asked her husband if he remembered chimpanzees in the supermarket when they were children. He himself had looked puzzled, wondering if his wife laughed at him!For Chéri it was a couple who was playing a little. Maybe so, but until then I had a good trip return  home with them.And in any case it was a great although it was tiring day.

A la recherche du "home sweet home" / Looking for a home sweet home

Mardi 25 août au jeudi 3 septembre 2015 / Tuesday 25th August to Thursday 3 September

A peine nous étions arrivés, une de nos plus grandes priorités étaient de trouver un appartement au plus vite. En effet, nous avons un logement dans une résidence étudiante que nous pouvons louer un mois maximum. Et surtout sans accès à Internet, ça ne facilite pas les choses. Heureusement que nous avons pu avoir accès à cet outil précieux de la bibliothèque municipale. L'université pour laquelle Chéri travaille lui avait fourni par un courriel une liste d'agences immobilières. Le temps de griffonner les noms, adresses (repérer sur la carte de la ville où c'était située), et numéro de téléphone, nous avons passé une bonne partie de la journée à marcher - ce qui nous a permis de "visiter" la ville - et à demander "bonjour, nous venons juste d'arriver à Dundee, et nous cherchons un appartement avec deux chambres. Auriez-vous quelques choses à nous proposer ?"

We just arrived that our biggest priority then was looking for a flat to live in as soon as possible! Of course we have somewhere to live, but a apartement in a students residence that we can rent for one month max. And as the wi fi didn't work, it didn't help us in our search. Good thing that we were able to go at the library to go on a computer and from there Chéri get the list that his work place sent him by email. The time to write agencies names, adresses (and looking where it is located on the map), phone number. I can say we did a lot of walking that day, well in a way we "visited" the city. And everytimes we get in Chéri to explain our request: "Hello, we just arrived here in Dundee, and we are looking for a two bedrooms. Do you have anything to rent?"
 
La première agence qui avait un nom un peu français avec deux mots Bv (je n'utilise que les premières lettres des mots vous allez comprendre pourquoi), nous n'avions pas eu un accueil très chaleureux, qui donne envie d'y revenir. Pourtant Chéri avait expliqué qu'il a un contrat et quel est son poste. C'était comme si nous dérangions la personne qui nous a reçu dans sa sieste. Il nous a donné une liasse de feuilles avec des appartements, en nous disant qu'ensuite si on y trouvait notre bonheur, il fallait compter trois semaines après avoir rempli les formalités... Mouais. Il pouvait très bien le dire que nous, en tant qu'étrangers, on le faisait plus suer qu'autre chose.

The first agency had a French name with just two words Bv (I only use the first letters of the words you'll understand why) we did not have such a warm welcome that makes you want to come back. Yet Chéri explained that he has a contract and what is his position. It was as if we were disturbing the person who received us in his nap. He gave us a set of pages with apartments, telling us if we are then found our happiness, it would take two to three weeks after completing the formalities ... Yeah. He could very well say that we, as foreigners, were making him sweating more than anything else.

Ensuite, la deuxième agence. Quand vous ne connaissez pas une nouvelle ville, et que vous en êtes à votre 5ème pays, vous commencez à avoir un sens de l'orientation. Donc vous êtes sûres que vous êtes dans la bonne direction, mais toujours pas d'agence. Et en plus la rue dans laquelle elle se trouve, elle est longue ! Chéri était presque sur  (si, si tu l'étais - je sais qu'il me lit) que nous nous sommes trompés. Et en continuant encore un peu : tada! 2rentme. Un accueil fort meilleure et chaleureux que l'agence précédente. On passait de la nuit au jour ! Et là, la personne regarda ce qu'elle pouvait nous faire visiter. Il y avait deux appartement dont un non-meublés. Oui, j'avais oublié de préciser que nous voulions un meublé : plus pratique même si du coup le prix est un peu plus élevé. Elle nous propose une visite pour le lendemain, mercredi, et une autre (le meublé) vendredi matin. De cette façon, elle pouvait contacter les locataires actuels pour savoir si l'heure de visite ne les dérangeait pas.

Then, the second agency. When you do not know a new city, and you are in your fifth country, you begin to have a sense of direction. So you are sure that you are in the right direction, but still no agency. And besides the street where it is located, it is a long one! Chéri was almost over that we were wrong. And yet we still keep going on a little: and tada! 2rentme. A strong warm welcome and better than the previous agency. We went from night to day! And there, the person looked what she could show us around. There were two apartments including one unfurnished. Yes, I forgot to specify that we wanted a furnished one: convenient even if the price is a little bit higher. She offers us a visit the next day, Wednesday, and another (appartment) Friday morning. This way, she could contact the current tenants to see if the visiting hours did not disturb them.

Et nous avons fait une troisième. A mon avis, les gens me paraissaient pas si sérieux que ça, mais l'un d'entre eux nous proposa de voir trois appartements pour le lendemain après-midi.
Quatre appartements à voir le mercredi. Un le matin et les trois autres l'après-midi.
Nous avons du nous rendre aux agences et de là, ils ont pris leurs voitures pour nous faire les visites.

And we made a third one. To my opinion, people seemed to me not so serious as that, but one of them suggested we see three apartments for the next afternoon.
Four apartments to see Wednesday. One in the morning and three in the afternoon.
The meeting points were the agencies and from there, they took us by cars to the places to visit.

La première visite fut un très bel appartement, avec une vue magnifique sur la mer mais malheureusement trop grand pour deux personnes, et non meublé.
Quand à la seconde agence, bizarrement, nous n'avions eu que deux visites. Je devine que l'un des trois a été pris entre temps. Le premier qu'ils nous on fait visité était bien, mais comme l'a fait remarqué Chéri, où est-ce que les gens mangent ? En effet, il manquait une table, et il n'y avait pas de place pour en mettre une. Le deuxième était très sympa, avec un balcon donnant sur la route (moyen) et une vue sur une usine, ou un entrepôt (moyen). Par contre, on avait accès au toit avec l’ascenseur, et de là il y avait une vue magnifique sur la ville.
Nous avons hésité, et nous avons demandé si nous pouvions éventuellement remplir les papiers nécessaire et donner une réponse vendredi. Nous étions d'accord d'attendre de voir ce que l'autre agence avait encore à nous faire voir.

The first visit was a very nice apartment with a magnificent sea view but unfortunately too big for two people, and not furnished.
With the second agency, oddly, we only had two visits. I guess the third one had found tenant. The first that we visited was good, but as Chéri pointed out, where do people eat? Indeed, it missed a table, and there was no place to put one. The second was very nice, with a balcony overlooking the road (I knew better view) and a view of a factory, or warehouse (same here about the view). But, yes there was at least something good, we had access to the roof with the elevator, and from there it was a beautiful view of the city.
We hesitated, and we asked if we could possibly fulfill the necessary papers and give a response Friday. We agreed between Chéri and I to wait and see what the other agency had yet to make us see.

Revenu à l'agence, nous nous sommes quand même sentis pressurisé par les agents : il y a une autre visite sur celui-là demain. Vous savez, les deux chambres, meublés, c'est ce qui est le plus demandé et ça part vite. Surtout en ce moment !
Mais nous avions tenu bon. On attendait vendredi, sinon, tant pis.

Back at the agency, we did feel pressured by officials: there is another visit on that one tomorrow. You know, two bedrooms, furnished, is what is the most requested and it goes fast. Especially now!
But we held firm. Friday was expected, if not, too bad.

Chéri tenait à retourner à Bv. Insister sur le fait s'ils ne pourraient pas nous proposer des visites au lieu des feuilles qu'on nous a donné la veille. J'avais remarqué le méchant, le gars pas agréable sortir. Du coup, nous avions eu un accueil différent, et on nous proposa une visite pour le vendredi après-midi.

Chéri wanted to return to Bv. Emphasize that if they could not offer us something to visit instead of papers that we were given the day before. I had noticed the villain, not the nice guys, coming out when we get in. So, we had a different reception, and offered us a tour for Friday afternoon.

Vendredi arriva. Et lorsque nous sommes retournés à 2rentme, l'agent nous fit savoir que ce n'était pas un appartement mais deux que nous visiterons ! Comme ce n'était pas loin de l'agence, nous y sommes allés à pieds. Le premier est à mes yeux une maison jumelée. Place de parking, cuisine, et grand salon donnant avec un petit patio et un jardin ! Et à l'étage, deux chambres et la salle de bain. Pas loin d'un parc où nous pourrons aller courir et la mer n'est pas loin également.
Pour nous deux c'était le coup de foudre !! Le prix était légèrement plus cher que ce que nous avons demandé... Le deuxième était sympa aussi. J'ai adoré la chambre sous les toits avec les grandes fenêtres.
Là, nous hésitons. Le coup de foudre était un très bel appartement. Et on avait encore une visite à faire dans l'après-midi. Nous avions peur qu'il nous file entre les doigts. L'agent nous explique que si nous souhaitons réfléchir durant le week-end et donner une réponse lundi matin, nous pouvons laisser un acompte de 100£, et personne ne pourra le visiter. Si finalement nous ne le prendrions pas, l'argent nous reviendra. Sinon, il faudra compléter pour le mois de caution. Pour nous, ça allait très bien. Et nous avons fait le nécessaire.

Friday arrived. And when we returned to 2rentme, the agent let us know that it was not one apartment but two we were going to visit! As it was not far from the agency, we went for a walk. The first was to my eyes a semi-detached house. Parking, kitchen and large living room overlooking with a small patio and garden! And upstairs, two bedrooms and bathroom. Not far from a park where we can go running and the sea is not far also.For both of us it was love at first sight !! The price was slightly more than what we asked ... The second was nice too. I loved the attic bedroom with the large windows.Here we hesitated. The previous one was a very nice apartment. And we still had to make a visit in the afternoon. We were afraid that one will go before we could decide. The agent explained that if we want to think about during the weekend and give an answer on Monday morning, we can leave a deposit of £100, and no one will visit it. If we do not rent it finally, we would take the money back. Otherwise, we will complete for the month of deposit. For us, it was fine. And we did the necessary.

Quand à la visite de l'après-midi, non. Il n'y avait pas à dire. 
Donc lundi, nous sommes revenus à l'agence pour faire part de notre décision. Et là, nous avions eu une agréable surprise d'apprendre que le loyer était moins cher que ce que l'on nous a dit vendredi ! Et le prix correspondait plus dans la tranche que Chéri avait imposé.
Et jeudi, les papiers ont été signé ! Nous récupérerons les clés mardi 15. 

As for the visit of the afternoon, no. There was no denying it. 
So Monday we went back to the agency to share our decision. And there, we had a pleasant surprise to learn that the rent was cheaper than what we were told Friday! And the price more than reflected in the slice Darling imposed. 
And Thursday, the papers have been signed! We will collect the keys Tuesday 15.

V. 

Dundee

Dundee... Lorsque Chéri m'a dit ce nom de ville, je n'ai pu m'empêcher de penser au film Crocodile Dundee. Film qui se déroule alors en Australie. Alors lorsqu'on m'a précisé que c'était en Écosse, j'ai imaginé tout de suite une ville au milieu de nul part. Même si celle-ci a deux universités.
Comme je suis gentille je vous ai pris une jolie photo de la carte du pays, de cette façon vous pourrez mieux situé où est Dundee. 

Dundee... When Chéri told me about that city's name, my first tought was for the movie Crocodile Dundee. The movie taking place in Australia. So even if I was told that it is in Scotland, I have imagined straigh away a small city in the middle of nowhere. Even if there is two universities.
As I am kind, I will give you the picture of map of the country, this way you will where Dundee is.

Une ville de 156 561 habitants (chiffre de 2012, Chéri aimant les chiffres me corrigera peut-être !) située au nord-est de l'Écosse, à 100km d'Édimbourg. C'est la quatrième plus grande ville d'Écosse, et d'après ce que j'ai entendu une des ville qui compte le plus d'étudiants en Europe ! Et n'oublions pas que par rapport à sa situation géographique, c'est la ville la plus ensoleillée du pays !
Un train relie la ville à la capitale Édimbourg en train (1h15 à 1h40. Tout dépend ensuite du nombre d'arrêts qu'il fait.) Ainsi que des bus.

A city of about 156 561 inhabitants (numbers from 2012) and it is located north-east in Scotland, about 100km from Edinbourgh. It's the fourth bigger city here, and from what I have heard one the city which contains the more students in Europe! And let's not forget that its geographical situation made it the sunniest city in the country!
A train goes from Dundee to Edinbourgh many times/ day, it takes about 1h15 to 1h40. It depends afterwards how many stops there is) as well buses.

Cela fait une semaine que nous sommes arrivés, et bien entendu j'ai commencé à faire de la photo que vous trouverez plus bas. Nous avons surtout beaucoup marché dans le même coin lors de visites d'appartement... Ça, c'est une autre histoire qui viendra plus tard !

It's just a week we are here, and of course I have started to make pictures that you can see down here. We had walked a lot, especially in the same area as we were hunting for a new home sweet home... But this is another story that would come later!

En attendant, je pense que je m'y plairai bien. Les gens sont assez sympathiques en générale, bien qu'une personne rencontrée, lors d'une promenade, nous ait dit qu'elle les trouvait froids.
Comme je l'ai plus tard dit à Chéri, pour moi l'essentiel c'est de savoir que je peux participer à des évènements, groupes, ateliers sans me soucier de la langue. Ok, ils ont un accent. Pas tous, heureusement, et d'autres l'ont plus marqué que certains de leurs compères. Mais ça ne me dérange pas, c'est ça qui fait leur charme.

For now, I think I would be pleased to live here. People are really nice, kind, even thought we have met a person while we were in a park, telling us that to his opinion they were cold. Reserved. Maybe they are. But they are more cheerful, smiling easilier than some others. And I don't give a damn as I said to Chéri: for me the most important point is that I can communicate, participating to events, workshop without to be worry about the language issue. And it's ok to me if they have an accent. Not everyone, happily, and some others might have it more prounounced than other one. And it's what made their charmed.

Frontière britannique et fin de la journée / Crossing the British border and end of the day.

Arrivée à l'aéroport, je réalisai une chose : nous étions à la frontière britannique. Et si nous avions un e-passeport,  nous devions passer la "frontière" avec les machines. Rien de plus
stressant lorsque vous voyez que certaines machines avaient du mal à lire la bande magnétique de votre passeport. Surtout la numéro 4. Je me souviens très bien du numéro car beaucoup de gens peinait pour franchir le portique. Et bien sur, c'était celle que j'avais droit !

Just arrived at Edinbourgh airport, I realized one thing then: we were at the British border. And if we have a e passeport, we had to cross "the border" through machines. I wasn stressing a little bit when we both saw some of the machines had difficulties to read the e passeport. Especially the number 4. I remembert this number because a lot of people were struggling to get through the doors. And of course, I got that one !

Tout d'abord je n'avais pas assez poussé mon passeport. Ensuite, je me suis assurée que j'avais les pieds bien placé comme indiqué, regardé l'écran devant moi tout en glissant mon passeport. Et c'était bon. Contrairement à Chéri qui avait dû mal et a dû passer par la façon classique : face à face avec une vraie personne en chair et en os.

First, I didn't push enought far my passeport into it. Then, I made sure that I have my feet well placed as indicated, looked at the screen in front of me while sliding my passeport. And it worked. Not like with Chéri who had some issues with his and had to go to the classical way: face to face with a real person made of flesh and bones.

D'habitude, c'est nous qui attendons les valises mais vu le temps que la petite démarche précédente,  c'était elles qui nous attendaient en faisant un tour du manège supplémentaire !
Lors de l'atterrissage,  bien entendu j'ai pu voir un peu ce qui m'attendait et je fus ramené à douze années en arrière lorsque j'étais allée en Irlande. Vallonnés, montagnes, verdure.
Encore plus excitée lorsque nous étions dans le bus qui nous amenait à Edimbourg Waverley station (la gare) : l'architecture,  la vieille pierre, les monuments.
Alors que j'essayais de mon mieux à gérer les valises, j'entends une voix masculine, avec un petit accent, dernière me demandant si je souhaitais de l'aide. Je ne pouvais refuser.

Usually, it's us waiting for our luggages but as the previous step took a bit of time, finally it was the opposite way for this time. I was able to caught two on four and let the others taking an other turn.
While we were landing I discovered then what was waiting for me, and I was brought 12 years back when I went to Ireland for the first time. Hills, mountains, lot of green.
And yet, I was even more excited when we get in the bus for Edinbourgh Waverley station, from where we will take the train to Dundee.
I was trying to do my best with the luggages I had under my hands, I heard a man voice, with an accent, asking me if I needed some help. I couldn't refuse it.

Nous étions fatigués. Il nous restait à peu près une heure de marge avant le départ du train. Nous étions arrivés vers 12h30 à l'aéroport, et le train était à 15h20. Trajet de 1h15. Juste pour vous donner une idée.Quel plaisir de continuer à découvrir les paysages qui s'offrent à mes yeux. 
A la descente du train, un passager m'a proposé son aide pour sortir les valises du train. Ce que j’appréciai une fois de plus.
Le temps de prendre un taxi, de récupérer les clé du logement étudiant que nous avons temporairement, ça faisait du bien de pouvoir se poser et se dire ça y est, on est arrivé !

We were tired. Still about one hour before we take the train. We arrived at Edimbourgh airport around 12.30, the train was at 15.20. Arriving at Dundee about 16.35. Just to give you an idea.
But what pleasure for my eyes to keep going on to discover the landscapes that Scotland offers.
When we get off from the train, one more time, someone proposed to help me with my luggages. Which I appreciated again.
The time to take a taxi, to get the key for the students accomodation where we will be staying for a short term, the time to find a apartment, it was feeling good to arrive and to say: yes, we did it, we arrived at the final destination.
