Fantastique ou la double exposition au Petit Palais

Aussi bête que ça peut paraitre lorsque j'avais vu les posters dans les stations de métro annonçant cette exposition, je voulais aller la voir. La première pour découvrir un artiste japonais, la seconde car plusieurs artistes tel que Delacroix, Gustave Doré, Goya, etc ont illustré le fantastique. J'étais curieuse de découvrir leurs travaux sur ce thème.
Donc voici quelques photos.

As silly as it may seem when I had seen the posters in subway stations announcing this exhibition, I wanted to go see it. The first to discover a Japanese artist, the second because several artists such as Delacroix, Gustave Doré, Goya, etc. illustrated fantastic. I was curious to discover their work about it.

Fantastique ! Kuniyoshi : Le démon de l'estampe /  Demon of print

Le Petit Palais invite le public à découvrir pour la première fois en France la production d’un artiste hors du commun, Kuniyoshi (1797-1861). Grâce à d’importants prêts japonais, complétés par ceux d’institutions françaises, les 250 œuvres présentées témoigneront de sa grande force dramatique et de sa beauté expressive. L’exposition explicitera la fonction de cette imagerie de grande qualité et son importance dans la société japonaise, l'œuvre de Kuniyoshi, naguère admiré de Monet ou Rodin, ayant largement influencé depuis l’art du manga et du tatouage.*

Visitors to the Petit Palais are invited to discover, for the first time in France, the work of the extraordinary artist, Kuniyoshi (1797-1861). Thanks to generous loans from Japan, supplemented by loans from French institutions, the 250 works on display will give a full picture of Kuniyoshi’s dramatic genius and the expressive beauty of his work. The exhibition will explain the function of the imagery and its importance in Japanese culture. Kuniyoshi’s work has had an enormous influence on manga art and tattooing.*

Le Petit Palais invite dans ses murs la Bibliothèque nationale de France pour cette grande première sur l’estampe fantastique. Plus de 170 oeuvres de Goya à Redon en passant par Delacroix et Gustave Doré introduiront le visiteur dans cet univers omniprésent dans la gravure et la lithographie du XIXe siècle. Du macabre au bestiaire fantastique, ou au paysage habité, jusqu’à la représentation du rêve ou du cauchemar : le triomphe du noir ! *

 The Petit Palais is host to the French National library (Bibliothèque nationale de France) to celebrate, for the first time and on a grand scale, the terrifying world of visionary, ‘gothic-fantasy’ prints. More than 170 works from Goya to Redon, including prints by Delacroix and Gustave Doré will introduce the visitor to this important aspect of 19^th century engravings and lithographs. Ah un peu d'humour si vous voyez ce que je veux dire ;-) Si je me souviens bien cela s'appelait le cauchemar du docteur. / A bit of humor if you can see it. If I remember right it was called the Doctor's nighmare.

Don Quichotte ayant trop lu, se perd entre la réalité et imagination.
